We discovered that Jonah, Sara’s father is affected with HIV virus. Is it also AIDS that killed little poor Sara? There is a possibility that she died of AIDS. But the question here is who is to be blamed for spreading that life threatening disease. Is it Sara’s mother Lilian, or it Sara’s father Jonah? Both have the possibilities that killed innocent Sara.
We know that Jonah is a type of person who always hangs around with friends drinking. Moreover, he also hangs around with Mary. “There’re rumors that when Mary’s passed out, men drag her into an outhouse and have their fun” (Stratton 24). We can conclude that Mary is a prostitute and it’s obvious that she has got the AIDS. Maybe Mary is the one who passed the virus on Jonah which indirectly killed Sara.
On the other hand, it is also Lilian who is to be blamed for Sara’s death because she had number of sex partner for her living. Her second husband was not good enough compare to others. Lilian alone is not enough for him. He even wanted Chanda despite her age. Who knows that man had been doing the same thing before Chanda and her mother came to live with him. Accidently, he passed the virus to Lilian and indirectly to Sara.
The real reason for Sara’s death would surely be because of AIDS either from her mother or her father. AIDS is deadly disease which does not have cure once we get it. The only thing we can do is to prevent it before we get it. We will not be able to know whether we got it or not because it will take a long duration to show up its symptoms and sickness. One may get it unknowingly from someone who got the virus with them without their knowledge.
Should we discriminate the victims of the AIDS just because it’s a life threatening disease? It’s a wrong thing people do who understand nothing about AIDS. Places where there is no access to education and good health care, it’s our responsibilities as an educated person to make each and everyone aware of the deadly disease and its preventions. All people should be fully aware of how it is transmitted from one to another. It’s better to cure before it attacks us and give us a miserable life at the end.

Yes Dechen. As we all know AIDS is a deadly disease, the only thing we can do is prevent from the disease. However, we can’t imagine that how many people have died as Sara died. Surely Sara must have to die because of AIDS. In my opinion, Lilian is the most responsible person for this. However, the thing is Lilian also didn’t know that whether she has AIDS or not. It is sure that if she knows, probably she will not give birth to Sara. What should have to happen has happened now, so only thing is try to save our lives as well as others and as much as we can.
I also agree with you Dechen. Sara got AIDS from her father Jonah. Because of getting AIDS from Jonah, Lilian miscarriage babies when she tried to give birth. AIDS is the secret reason for Sara’s death. Thank You for sharing it.
